News | Production: Automotive compliant strain wave gears – what exactly does that mean?

Our absolute priorities are on achieving the highest standards of quality, unwavering customer orientation and constant innovation. That is why the production of our strain wave gears is compliant with automotive standards. But what does that actually mean? What does IATF 16949 certification involve? And what are the advantages for your processes? Let us explain it to you!

Hardly any other industry has such high standards of quality as the automotive segment – in every area, including development, engineering, production, and assembly. Components, assemblies, and products are subject to the same stringent regulatory requirements as structures, processes, and methods. The central and most important standard for quality management in the automotive industry is IATF 16949. It defines globally unified requirements and was developed jointly by members of the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), which is comprised primarily of North American and European automotive manufacturers and motorcar associations. This ensures a constantly high level of quality throughout the entire supply chain.

Automotive compliant productions of strain wave gears

IATF 16949 certification allows companies to confirm full compliance with the stringent requirements of the automotive industry and that they have established processes for continuous improvement. It is considered the gold standard for quality and is essential for entry into the automotive supply segment. The production of our strain wave gears at the Ovalo GmbH location in Limburg (Lahn) is compliant with automotive standards (IATF certification 16949). That ensures maximum quality, reliability, and stability with large volumes, short development cycles, full traceability, and a high level of cost-effectiveness – from one-piece flow to large series production.

Advantages of automotive compliant production:

  • Highest level of quality
  • Large quantities
  • Automated production processes
  • High process reliability
  • Full traceability
  • High level of cost-effectiveness
  • Short development cycles

Maximum quality and reliability

Customer satisfaction is our top priority. That also means high standards for quality assurance. To achieve our ambitious quality goals we pursue a process-oriented approach with a zero-error strategy in the production of our strain wave gears. We use methods such as FMEA and root cause analysis and work untiringly to identify and exhaust potentials for improvement.

The production of our strain wave gears achieves virtually 100% value creation in Germany – from raw materials to service. We use state-of-the-art production systems all the way down to the testing and measuring technology, as well as patented production processes with a high level of automation, maximum flexibility and a high standard of cleanliness. Lean management methods and a process of continuous improvement ensure maximum quality and efficiency. The high production capacity ensures maximum availability and dependable delivery times.

Strain wave gear production in compliance with IATF certification 16949:

  • Fulfilment of the highest quality standards
  • Process-oriented approach with zero-error strategy
  • Continuous improvement process
  • 100% value creation in Germany
  • High level of automation
  • State-of-the-art testing and measuring technology
  • Patented production processes
  • High standard of cleanliness
  • Large vertical range of manufacture
  • High production capacity
  • 100% inspection before delivery
  • Worldwide availability

Strain wave gears for the most demanding requirements

The Ovalo GmbH location in Limburg (Lahn) has its own mechanic and engine development department, modern prototype construction with near-series quality, and a test centre that enables mechanical and climatic tests, also of specifically developed systems. Prior to delivery, the gears are subjected to a 100% inspection: Each individual strain wave gearbox is put through its paces. This includes testing of service life and wear, performance, properties, as well as temperature and environmental resistance.

Whether for robotics or general machine and plant engineering: Our strain wave gears embody the utmost in performance, efficiency, reliability and availability, making them the key to competitive automation processes.
