Worm gears
Are you looking for a worm gearbox?
Worm gearboxes are a robust solution for applications with high reduction ratios and limited space and are rarely used in precision applications. Nevertheless, there are points of contact. For example in the area of rotary tables. Here, the fields of application of worm gearboxes and cycloidal gearboxes overlap - with significant advantages in favor of our precision gearboxes. Ball screw drives, strictly speaking also worm gearboxes, benefit from a combination with strain wave gears.
Cycloidal gears and worm gears
Classic rotary tables are often equipped with worm gears. However, worm gears are very inefficient and naturally show signs of wear after a certain time. The typical self-locking effect caused by friction also has a negative impact on the dynamics. High torques and dynamic cycles also result in high surface pressure, which affects the material.
With the cycloidal gears of the RS series, we offer you an efficient alternative for rotary positioning. Our innovative solutions are characterized by a compact design, high positioning accuracy and outstanding performance and enable fast acceleration and deceleration with high positioning, repeatability and speed accuracy. This allows processes to be designed more efficiently.

Worm gears
Worm gears consist of a worm shaft and a worm wheel. Both components mesh with each other, whereby the two axes are offset to each other - usually by 90 degrees. A sliding movement takes place. This leads to high losses due to friction and reduced efficiency.
Worm gearboxes are characterized by a simple design, a robust construction, low-noise operation and a compact design and can be found in many industrial applications - for example in presses, rolling mills, conveyor systems, extruder machines and rotary indexing tables. Due to their design, worm gearboxes have a relatively high load capacity and enable high reduction ratios in the smallest of spaces. They are usually self-locking.
